The Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most famous destinations and the last great natural sanctuaries, a pristine and rich wilderness home to vast concentrations of wildlife.
The Delta is located in north-western Botswana. The area includes permanent swamps which cover approximately 600,000 ha along with up to 1.2m ha of seasonally flooded grassland.
The best time to visit the Okavango Delta is during the dry season from June-October when the rains have stopped, and the flood waters have usually arrived.
The area hosts a number of animals the biggest predators dominating the Okavango Delta are cheetah, wild dog, lion, leopard and hyena. Large herds of elephant also roam the area
The Okavango Delta is excellent for bird watching throughout the year, but the ideal time is in the Wet season, from November to April, when summer migrant birds are present.
Okavango Delta is considered to be the most dynamic destination for birding in Botswana. This great wetland sanctuary is a UNESCO Site and boasts over 400 recorded species.
December to February are hot wet months with daytime temperatures as high as 40 °C (104 °F), warm nights, and humidity levels fluctuating between 50 and 80%. From March to May, the temperature reduces, with a maximum of 30 °C (86 °F) during the day and mild to cool nights
