Just steps from the starting point for gorilla trekking, Buhoma Lodge offers guests the rare privilege of waking up to the sounds of the forest and returning, after an unforgettable day on the mountain, to warm hospitality and understated comfort.
With just ten chalets, each with private verandas overlooking the forest canopy, Buhoma keeps the experience intimate and authentic. Stone fireplaces, warm wooden interiors, and thoughtful touches create a retreat that feels both grounding and indulgent.
The lodge is designed to blend seamlessly into its environment — low-impact, eco-conscious, and built with local materials — ensuring that every stay contributes to protecting the forest and supporting the surrounding community
For most, a stay at Buhoma Lodge is about one thing: coming face to face with the mountain gorillas of Bwindi. Being based right at the trailhead means early mornings are unhurried, and after a day trekking through dense jungle, the comforts of Buhoma are just a few steps away.
Guests can also enjoy a complimentary massage after a gorilla trek, making the experience of adventure and relaxation perfectly balanced.
Beyond gorilla trekking, guests can explore the local Batwa tribe and community village on guided walks, gaining insight into the culture, traditions, and stories of the people who have lived alongside the forest for generation
Buhoma Lodge is more than a gateway to the gorillas – it’s part of the greater story of conservation and community. The lodge actively supports the Future Generations Trust, which funds education, conservation projects, and community initiatives across Uganda. Every guest plays a role in this cycle of giving back.
Perched on the edge of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Buhoma Lodge is more than a place to stay, it’s a front-row seat to one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters on earth.
