The Lower Zambezi National Park, founded in 1983, covers an area of 4,092 square kilometers along the northwestern bank of the Zambezi River.

  • Best to visit

    Mostly from July to October is the ideal time to visit Lower Zambezi National Park, although October can be extremely hot. These months represent the middle and end of the Dry season, and they are the best time for wildlife viewing.

  • Animals

    A wide variety of animals are found here including giraffe, lion and leopard have access to the park from surrounding areas like Mana Pools National Park from Zimbabwe.

    Common ones include the Elephants, buffaloes, Zebras, Hippos, crocodile and the white and black Rhinos are non- existence. The park has a good number of resident antelopes, including waterbuck and bushbuck.

    The best time for watching wildlife in Zambezi National Park is during the dry season, which takes place from July to October

    More than 350 bird species have been recorded in Lower Zambezi National Park, making it a top destination for birders. The park is particularly rich in resident and migrant waders, which can be found on the riverbanks and sandbanks.

  • Weather

    Lower Zambezi National Park has a hot climate with a Wet and Dry season and fairly uniform temperatures year-round. However, it gets quite cold at night from May to August. December to February are the wettest months and rain can be expected most days.
