The Laikipia Plateau is a remote and beautiful region, with a landscape that includes open grassy plains, high altitude plateaus, acacia bushland which is home to nearly half of Kenya’s rhino population and also the big five and offers night drives, guided walks, and horseback safari excursions.
Laikipia Plateau is Located South of Laikipia and North of Mount Kenya, this conservancy was established in 1995
The best time to visit Laikipia is generally considered to be during the long dry season from June to September, which offers fantastic game viewing, cooler temperatures and clear skies, but also more visitors. January and February are also a good time to visit, mostly dry and when many young animals are born.
Laikipia is home to the “Big Five” mammals – elephant, lion, leopard, water buffalo, and rhinos – and to the planet’s largest population of Grevy’s Zebra and the Reticulated Giraffe, both endangered species.
Some of the common animals include the Giraffe, Hippo, Buffalo, Wildebeest, White Rhino and Black Rhino
Laikipia Plateau is a great birding destination with more than 350 recorded species, including many north Kenya specials, such as the stately Somali ostrich.
The climate at Laikipia Plateau is cool and temperate. Temperatures are uniform throughout the year as a result of being so close to the equator. Daytime temperatures are in the mid-twenties Celsius (seventies Fahrenheit), while it cools off considerably at night.
