Northern KwaZulu Natal

It is located in the southeast of the country, with a long shoreline on the Indian Ocean and sharing borders with three other provinces and the countries of Mozambique, Eswatini and Lesotho

The game areas of northern KwaZulu-Natal are best visited during the cool winter months from May to August.

The Big Five – lion, rhino (both black and white), elephant, buffalo and leopard – can all be seen in KwaZulu Natal alongside a huge range of other game animals including cheetah, zebra, hippo, crocodile, giraffe and warthog as well as rare and exotic species like the nyala antelope.

National Reserve Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park

The park is a prime birding destination and is home to 340 bird species. The Hluhluwe River Flood Plain is one of the only areas in the whole of South Africa where yellow-throated, pink-throated and orange-throated longclaw species can be seen together.

The city’s yearly temperature is 22.85ºC (73.13ºF) and it is 1.63% higher than South Africa’s averages. Kwazulu-Natal typically receives about 106.56 millimeters (4.2 inches) of precipitation and has 159.63 rainy days (43.73% of the time) annually.
