Amboseli National Park is in southern Kenya. It’s known for its large elephant herds and views of immense Mount Kilimanjaro, across the border in Tanzania.
Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, the Amboseli National Parks is one of Kenya’s most popular parks. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust.”
Amboseli National Park is the Second most popular national park in Kenya after Maasai Mara, 260km(160miles) from Nairobi City to the park.
Amboseli National Park, formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve, is a national park in Loitoktok District Rift Valley Province of Kenya in Kajiado County in southern Kenya.
The dry season from June to October is generally considered the best time to see wildlife in Amboseli; with little rain falling wildlife retreats to the park’s swamps where underground water from Kilimanjaro wells up permanently year-round.
Animal found here include Leopard, Cheetah, Wild dogs, Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Lion, Crocodile, Mongoose, Hyrax, Dik- dik, Lesser Kudu, and Nocturnal Porcupine.
Amboseli National Park is a good birding destination and more than 420 species have been recorded here. The swamps are great for waterbirds such as egrets, herons, pelicans and crowned cranes. Large numbers of flamingos may be present in the two rainy seasons (March to May and November to December).
