Overview

Lake Nakuru National Park is a UNESCO World heritage site and it’s internationally recognized as an IBA since 2009 and is (188 km2, 73 mi2) big and was created in 1961 around Lake Nakuru, near Nakuru Town.

    Lake Nakuru national park is located in the central part of Kenya on the floor of the great rift valley in the northwestern direction from Nairobi surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland.

  • Best time to visit

    The best time to visit Lake Nakuru National Park is during the dry seasons. June to October the long dry season, and January to March is the short dry season. During the dry seasons, many of the smaller watering holes dry up, causing animals to gather at Lake Nakuru for water.

    Animals in Lake Nakuru national park include rhinos (black and white rhinos), Rothschild giraffes, cape buffaloes, olive baboons, impalas, waterbucks, hippos, colobus monkeys, spotted hyenas, zebras, gazelles, leopards, lions, pythons among others.

  • Birding

    Lake Nakuru National Park is a great birding destination with more than 400 species recorded. The soda lake is a birding hot spot and supports a lot of birdlife, including flamingos and pelicans at the western end of the lake. Nakuru is also one of the best places in Kenya to see the striking long-tailed widowbird.

  • Weather

    Lake Nakuru has a mild climate and temperatures are consistent year-round.
