Join us and discover a magical island where you get to fish the mighty Zambezi and Chobe Rivers. Sekoma Island belongs to a chain of islands in the Mambova Rapids, below which lies the Caprivi Strip where Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia meet.
The waters surrounding Sekoma Island are can only be explored by a mokoro (dugout boat), with the exception of the northern point which accommodates guests and has a harbour, guaranteeing complete privacy.
Sekoma Island is home to but a lucky few: Lodge staff, guests and a herd of bachelor elephant. The Island offers elephant refuge in the Sekoma forest, which teems with indigenous birds, fauna and flora.

The Zambezi and Chobe offers every fisherman wonderful opportunities. Sekoma Island Lodge is situated on the Zambian side of the Mambova Rapids on a stretch of river that experiences annual flooding. This phenomenon acts as a stocking system where the area becomes home to a large variety of insects, crustaceans, flora and of course, fish.
The waters surrounding Sekoma are a paradise for the adventurous angler, whether a conventional, lure or fly fisher, you are up against Tiger Fish, large Tilapia, colourful Bream species, and African Pike. The formidable Tiger Fish is world-renowned for being a fierce, hard-fighting fish that has a reputation of being the toughest freshwater fish to pursue.
A variety of fishing methods can be used, with fly-fishing and lure fishing being predominant.

The lesser-visited backwaters can be explored where many of the vegetarian species of bream such as the Greenhead Tilapia and Pink Happies call home. Tiger fish are caught predominantly by fly fishing and artificial lure fishing, during April however, the river is high and discoloured, and we do permit some bait fishing using circle hooks.
Sekoma carries 12 boats in its fleet, which are powered by 60hp motors. Boats can take a maximum of fisherman at any one time. Angling on the river is undertaken on fully carpeted, fiberglass bass boats which have been modified with snag-free decks for fly fisherman.
Untouched rapids can be accessed from mid-July through to December by Ark Inflatable Boats, which is a must for the avid angler as you can be eye-to-eye with magnificent sporting fish

These can be arranged. Visa conditions may apply for activities/tours in Botswana, Zimbabwe or Namibia and non-SADC passport holders should opt for a multi-entry visa when first arriving in Zambia.

Sekoma Island Lodge is located 95km West of Livingstone, Zambia and 4km North of Kasane, Botswana at the far eastern point of the Caprivi Strip. The island lies on the Zambezi River border with Namibia.

Accommodation
The communal guest area houses the bar, undercover dining area and lounge. The deck in front is a great place to relax with a sundowner in hand after a hard days fishing.
Many meals are enjoyed outdoors under the stars around the fire pit of the main boma. A second fireplace it situated close to the communal area so that guests can sit around the fire in winter, warming their hands, while waiting to start the day’s fishing.
Accommodation comprises of ten Meru style tents on raided wooden decks, which overlook the Mambova rapids. It’s possible to throw a line in from just outside the front door of a tent. (Great fun; we’ve done it!)
There are 8 twin bedded tents and two family tents which sleep four people in each. Each tent has a private en suite bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet.

The accommodation at Sekoma Lodge offers both comfort and breathtaking views of the Mambova rapids. Set on wooden decks, Sekoma Lodge’s spacious safari tents sleep either 2 or 4 guests. Each safari tent boasts a full bathroom suite and sleeps two in either single or queen size beds. Our 4 sleepers are ideal for families or groups, which can be arranged as 4 singles or 2 doubles.

Sekoma has a fleet of eight boats which are powered by 55hp motors. Boats take a maximum of two fly fishermen or four lure anglers at one time.
Fly fishing and lures fishing are the most popular fishing methods. The largemouth bream and tilapia species, namely the Nembwe (Olive bream), Thinface largemouth, Humpback largemouth as well as Threespot- and Redbreast tilapia take artificials readily. Tiger fish are caught mainly by fly fishing and artificial lure fishing, but in April, when the river is high and often dirty, the lodge allows for some bait fishing with circle hooks.

Sekoma Island is located in a Malaria area. You are advised to either take prophylactics or bring along some insect repellent of your choice. We do supply repellent free of charge.
A high factor sun block is recommended as well as suitable head gear and sun glasses.
Some evenings/early morning can be quite cold – suitable cover is recommended.
