Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge is situated on the upper Zambezi River in south-western Zambia near the village of Mwandi (meaning place of ‘plenty fish’). The lodge is approximately 140km west of Livingstone (Zambia), 90 km west of Kazungula Ferry (Zambia / Botswana border), 5km west of Mwandi and 55km east of Sesheke (Zambia / Namibia border).

This places Shackletons in the heart of ‘Tiger Country’ – home to the fearless tigerfish.

Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge is located in the flood plain region of the upper Zambezi River in Zambia.

This places us in the middle of ‘Tiger Country’, the premier location for awesome tiger fish. These rich tiger fishing waters are less than 10 minutes by boat from the lodge.

We cater for fly fishing, spin and lure anglers of all levels and ages.

Accommodation

Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge will spoil you, your family and friends with exciting Zambezi tiger fishing in  pristine waters, with glorious sunsets and so much more!

Shackletons accommodates 12 guests in six thatched, en-suite chalets with private teak decks overlooking the magnificent Zambezi River. Each chalet has a bedroom with two three-quarter size beds, cupboards, en suite bathroom (shower, hand basin and toilet), hot water, electricity, plug points (type M plugs – 3 round prongs – same as South Africa), solar lights, safety deposit box, ceiling fan and mosquito nets.

The Van Togo bar, sundowner deck, lounge, library, open dining area, swimming pool and fire pit provide guests with unparalleled vistas of the Zambezi floodplain.

Besides being a premier tiger fishing destination, the upper Zambezi River is home to over 300 bird species that can be spotted at the Lodge or by boat along the Zambezi River banks and in the tranquil river channels.

At Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge, you can also experience Zambian culture, great home-grown food, peace and tranquility, and the unsurpassed friendly hospitality of the Shackletons’ people.

Different kinds of fishing methods are provided (depending on guests’ requirements, fishing conditions, and the time of the year): fly fishing, spinning, trolling and drift baiting.

Guests are provided with fishing tackle (except fly fishing tackle) suitable for catching all these types of fish, including the fearless tiger fish. Guests are also welcome to bring their own fishing tackle

Tiger Fishing in March to December

Any time from March to December is a good time to catch tiger fish at Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge. The upper Zambezi River conditions around Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge change constantly throughout the year. The river rises for 6 months of the year (December – May) to form the Eastern Caprivi Floodplain (also known as the Southern Barotse Floodplain). It then recedes for the other 6 months of the year (June – November). The tiger fish adapt their feeding habits according to ever-changing river levels, water clarity, water temperature, and food sources. Likewise, we change our preferred tiger fishing methods (trolling, drift baiting, spinning and fly fishing) throughout the year to ensure you get the best tiger fishing action on the Zambezi.

Operational Period

Shackletons is open almost all year round, even when the upper Zambezi River floods its banks each year to form the Zambezi floodplains. The lodge closes for a only few weeks at the beginning of each year for annual lodge refurbishments.

Guests can enjoy uninterrupted views over the Zambezi from the swimming pool, sun-downer deck and fire pit.

GETTING HERE BY AIR

Airlink offers three flights per week (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) from O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg, South Africa to Livingstone International Airport (Livingstone, Zambia) AND five flights per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from Livingstone International Airport to O.R. Tambo International Airport. Approximate flying time is 1 hour 45 minutes.

The nearest landing strip to Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge is Katima Mulilo Airport (MPA), previously called Mpacha Airport, in Namibia. This airport is 90 km from Shackletons.

Runway: Category 4 / Length – 2 292m / Width – 30m / Fire Fighting Category 3.

Fuel: NAC (Namibia Airports Company) have contracted the following service providers for efficient supply of fuel to the airlines at Katima Mulilo Airport: Jet A1 fuel, AV Gas by SEC.

VEHICLE TRANSFERS

Shackletons Tiger Fishing lodge provides road transfer from/to the following places:

Livingstone International Airport (Livingstone, Zambia): Distance -140 km. Travelling time – approx 4 hours.

Hotels in Livingstone (Zambia): Distance -140 km. Travelling time – approx 4 hrs.

Kazungula Bridge (Zambian side): Distance – 80 km. Travelling time – approx 3 hours.

Katima Mulilo Airport (Nambia): Distance – 90 km. Travelling time – approx 3 hours (dependent how long it takes to get through the Namibian/Zambian border posts of Katima Mulilo and Sesheke).

Shackletons Tiger Fishing Lodge does NOT provide road transfers from/to the following places:

Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe): You will need to arrange with your tour operator to transfer you from Victoria Falls to either the Victoria Falls Avani Resort in Livingstone (Zambia) or Livingstone International Airport (Zambia), from where we will provide the road transfer.

Kasane (Botswana): You will need to arrange with your tour operator to transfer you from Kasane (Botswana) to the Zambian side of Kazungula Bridge (Zambia/Botswana border post), from where we will provide the road transfer to Shackletons.

Lusaka (Zambia): Lusaka is 625 km from Shackletons. You will need to fly from Lusaka to Livingstone, from where we will provide the road transfer to Shackletons. Proflight fly daily between Lusaka (Zambia) and Livingstone (Zambia). Be sure to get a flight that lands in Livingstone before 13h00 – this is when our vehicle transfer leaves the airport for the lodge.

• Guests of all angling capabilities are catered for at Shackletons; anglers can fish for trophy Tigerfish, Bream and Catfish on lure, spinners or fly.
• Shackletons Lodge guests have fishing access to 130km of the upper Zambezi River.
• The lodge offers fishing boats ranging in size from 12’ to 26’.
• Guests are accompanied on daily fishing excursions by experienced fishing guides who know the area intimately. In addition to Tiger, guests may also catch bream and tilapia species: Nembwe, Thinface and Humpback Largemouth Bream; Redbreast, Threespot and Greenhead Tilapia; and Pink and Green Bream.
• Rods and fishing tackle are provided by lodge for those who require it. Fly fishing tackle however is not provided and fly fishermen must bring their own equipment along. 20 litres of fuel per day is provided for in our packages. Extra usage will be billed to your account at the lodge.
