Lake Manyara National Park

Overview

Lake Manyara National Park is a protected area in Tanzania’s Arusha and Manyara Regions, it is administered by the Tanzania National Parks Authority, and covers an area of 325 km² including about 230 km² lake surface.

  • Best time to visit

    Watching wildlife in Lake Manyara National Park is good all year, but is at its best from June to October, during the Dry season. However, this very scenic park is at its most beautiful during the Wet season, from November to May, when the vegetation is lush and waterfalls cascade down the escarpment.

  • Animals

    Manyara National Park is a sanctuary for hippo, giraffe, impala and zebra, and its lake a magnet for birdlife, including sizeable flocks of pink flamingos. Mahogany and sausage trees are alive with blue and vervet monkeys; elephants feed on fallen fruit, and bushbuck, baboons and leopard make their homes in the forest.

  • Birding

    Lake Manyara National Park has over 300 bird species including Eurasian migrant birds, acacia associated birds, raptors, and 3 endangered Tanzanian species: Rufous-tailed weaver, Ashy starlings and Black-collared Lovebird.

  • Weather

    The climate in Lake Manyara National Park is pleasantly warm. Average temperatures are consistent throughout the year. It is very rarely extremely hot, but it is often chilly during the evening and early morning. Taking warm clothing along on early morning game drives is recommended.
