Peponi Hotel is a small boutique hotel on the remote island of Lamu, situated in the Indian Ocean off the North Kenyan coast

Rooms

All the en-suite rooms are sea facing. There are two classes of room – Standard and Superior. The Superior rooms are larger, and have bigger verandas, which come with swing hammocks.   The decor is restrained, and the carefully chosen artefacts are generally locally sourced. The furniture – inside or on the veranda – is comfortable, and fits very well with the style of the room. Internet is available in the hotel, but please note the connection can be rather weak.

Activities include dhow trips, snorkeling, water sports and excursions into Shela, Lamu town and Takwa Ruins.

The food is incredible. Served up inside or out, it is an experience in itself, and – whether European, Swahili or sushi – is excellent, innovative and delicious. The service is equally good. Frequented as much by locals as it is by guests, the bar and terrace epitomises everything Peponi stands for: an experience that is intergrated, highly enjoyable, and real.

The weather in Lamu is great all year round, but to truly enjoy the charm of this seaside town, aim to visit during the dry seasons from July – October and January to February

Lamu

Lamu in Kenya can be reached by air from Kenya’s main airports in Nairobi, Mombasa and Malindi. All flights land on Manda Island, Lamu. Our guests are greeted by hotel staff upon arrival at Manda Airport and are transferred in one of our boats to the hotel.

Driving to Lamu

It is also possible to visit us by land although it is a bumpy seven hour drive from Mombasa and at least four hours from Malindi. You will have to park your car on the mainland at the Mokowe jetty and take a boat from there to Shela.

Flying to Lamu

Skyward Express, Safari Link and Jambo Jet fly between Lamu and Nairobi’s Wilson or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport daily. Flights are also available from Malindi and Mombasa airports. All times based on estimates and are subject to change without notice.

Rates apply per room per night, on a Bed and Breakfast basis only. Guests are free to have lunch and dinner in the hotel or choose to eat out. A Superior differs from a Standard room primarily by its size, location and have larger private verandas with swing hammocks. All room verandas overlooking the water, have en suite bathrooms, over-head fans inside the mosquito net and safes. Complimentary airport transfers by boat are included. Minimum nights may apply at certain times of year, please enquire.
