Onguma Tented Camp is a beguiling mixture of sophistication and relaxation, of elegance and the earth.
It is this intriguing combination and attention to detail that makes Onguma Tented Camp, the ultimate in safari chic.
In the local Herero language, Onguma means, “the place you don’t want to leave.” With a stunning main building and seven tents providing private, exclusive accommodation, Onguma Tented Camp, certainly lives up to its name.
An atmosphere of elegant dining prevails, complimented by the daily activities taking place around the watering hole, approximately 60 meters away. The surrounding nature lends itself to long lazy afternoons, spent relaxing on the sofas in the lounge, watching the animals go. And when things heat up, all that is required is a gentle stroll to the rim flow pool. Sit and relax in the flowing waters while enjoying an ice cold cooler. Alternatively if more strenuous activity is required, then relaxing on your patio and reading a good book should provide you with all the exercise you may need.
Onguma Camps ( OngumaTanted being one of the Camps) are situated on the eastern border of Etosha National Park, in friendly Namibia. Onguma offers great game viewing, romance, tranquility, adventure and so much more! With 5 lodges, two campsites and 34 000 hectares of private wilderness to explore, Onguma has an accommodation option that is just right for you!
Like the bush where soft air blows against sharp thorns, Onguma Tented Camp is a study in contrasts. Textures such as stone, suede, linen and steel create a setting that is sleek and modern but also inherently of the earth. Inspired by a photograph of an Oryx on Etosha’s Fisher’s Pan, the interior echoes the colours of its natural surrounds. Grey, charcoal, black, white, and creams, together with a touch of muted or unexpectedly bright green, adds sophistication and earthiness to the atmosphere.

Join us on an afternoon sundowner nature drive on the Onguma Reserve where our expert guides will explain the many intricacies of the bush.
Duration approx. 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
Onguma’s fabulous new water-level hide affords guests a great opportunity to calmly sit and enjoy nature unobserved. Amateur and professional photographers alike love the angles and light from this equipped hide.
There is a small ablution facility nearby Onkolo Hide, benches from which to view the surroundings and lots of windows and vantage points for creative camera angles.
Enjoy the Sound of Silence at our Onguma Sanctuary while relaxing with any of the unique therapeutic and wellness treatments.
Johan, our resident therapist, is a professional massage therapist with over 15 years experience, having lived and worked at renowned Wellness Centres in Asia and Africa. His passion for and dedication to massage therapy originated in the East, where he was trained and educated from the best teachers in their respective fields. Having the opportunity to spend considerable time with monks in Thailand, has also led him to incorporate focused awareness into his massage therapies.
The Dream Cruiser is Onguma’s newest and most exciting addition for adventurers, romantics and those who like being close to nature will love this new experience.
Custom built onto a Land Cruiser, it offers guests the opportunity to spend a romantic and / or adventurous night in the wilderness of the reserve. Built on two levels, the Dream Cruiser features a full bathroom downstairs complete with shower, flush toilet and basin whilst the upper deck features a bedroom with lounge area. A ranger is on call via a two-way radio so make the most of this time and relax in the safety and complete comfort of this unique space.
A night on the Dream Cruiser calls for al fresco dining as the sun sets over Onguma and the evening sounds start to come alive. Guests will find a picnic-style selection of food and pre-selected chilled drinks on offer. (If you are celebrating, ask about our special wine or champagne.)
The bed offers the opportunity to either have a roof with 180-degree views, or to sleep under the vast and awe-inspiring starry Namibian night skies.
In the morning, guests enjoy morning coffee / tea with homemade rusks / biscuits before being collected and taken to their lodge for breakfast.

Highlights
Etosha is a 22 750km² wildlife sanctuary in Namibia – one of Africa’s most stable and accessible countries. Etosha, meaning ‘place of dry water’, and refers to a flat calcrete depression (or pan) of about 5 000km². The ‘Pan’ (overlooked by the Onguma Reserve) provides a great, parched, silver-white backdrop of shimmering mirages to an area of semi-arid savannah grassland and thorn scrub. The pan itself contains water only after very good rains and sometimes for only a few days each year, but is enough to stimulate the growth of a blue-green algae which lures thousands of flamingos.
This part of Namibia has been identified as one of the key bird watching sites in Southern Africa.More than 300 bird species can be viewed at Onguma. The reserve boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. During the summer months Onguma becomes a bird-watchers paradise with thousands of birds migrating to wetlands created by the seasonal rains and ephemeral river systems.

Onguma Nature Reserve consists of 34 000 hectares of Namibian wilderness & is home to numerous plains game, more than 300 bird species and even 4 of the Big 5. Joining an Onguma Sundowner drives is the perfect way to end your day.
The Reserve incorporates ecological substrata such as savannah, bushveld, omuramba and dry pan. Age-old and well-worn migration routes, once used by elephant and buffalo wander through Onguma’s three dry riverbeds.
The Reserve boasts over thirty different animal species. Plains game roam freely on the Reserve and predators although not always easy to spot, are nevertheless common residents of the area. Lions and Cheetahs are frequently seen and often heard. There is a healthy black rhino and leopard population and hyenas are also often seen and heard. All of which can be spotted during our Sundowner Drives.
