Locally hand-crafted camps
Our Wayo Serengeti Green Camp features our newly designed tents sewn by local teams located on the boundary of Arusha National Park. The offering further extends our iconic Wayo mesh-sided tents to be 180 degrees creating a picture window frontage and taking the inside-outside experience to another level. Encased in a beautiful stretch canvas overhead, tents sensitively blend into the landscape whilst also providing shade and privacy. There are en suite bathrooms with low-flush toilets and bucket showers.
The interiors have been carefully sourced with help of anthropologists and fresh-to-the-field designers, celebrating cultural groups and encouraging the development of local craftsmanship whilst bringing innovative flair and high-level comfort.
The camp experience is focussed around immersing guests in both the feeling of being in the wild whilst also appreciating local craftsmanship. The interior includes bed panels made from banana leaves from Mto Wa Mbu, Maasai bed cushions, chaga cup chandeliers and countless other locally sourced materials.
The Serengeti National Park is seasonal with extreme dry regions at different times of the year. The Great Migration follows the rains to remain with the lush grasses. Wayo Serengeti Green Camp moves with the Migration.

Game Drives are available in camp as part of your package and you can also book a private Guide and vehicle. Wayo Africa Guides are well known in the industry as being some of the best.
Our Guides are keen to provide the very best experiences and they prioritise wildlife away from other vehicles and manage
Our Serengeti Green Camp primarily offers a taster of Walking Safaris. Wayo Africa can run short walks from this camp either in the morning or the afternoon. Longer full-day walks are available with a private vehicle and Wayo Guide.
Walking provides guests with a very different Safari. Guides unpick the careful balance of the Serengeti ecosystem from the length of the grasses to the dung beetle and caterpillar. Walks are conducted by our most experienced Safari Guides, all of whom have had rifle training. They are accompanied by a Serengeti Park Ranger.
The reassurance of this safety allows guests to settle into the experience. Longer treks can become almost interpreted as a meditative journey.
This is a mass movement of animals within the Serengeti ecosystem which stretches from the lower flanks of Ngorongoro through the Serengeti National Park and up into the Mara in Kenya.
The migration is the largest movement of mammals on the planet with over 2 million animals following a similar pattern each year. In these herds, the majority of the animals are wildebeest (1.3 million), 800,000 zebra and 200,000 Grant’s Gazelle.
Calving Season
December – April
The Migration moves south between December and March into the lower reaches of the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro due to the vast open plains and rich grasses. The open view to spot approaching predators provides protection as they congregate together in huge numbers spanning kilometres.
Traversing Season
May – Late June
From May onwards the southern plains begin to dry out and the rains head northwards towards Kenya and Lake Victoria. The migration splits into smaller groups moving in long lines slowly through the eastern, central and western areas of the Serengeti National Park.
River Crossings
Late June – October
As the herds reach the Mara River around late June and into early July they begin to cross. They stay in the northern section of the Serengeti and dip into Kenya continually crossing back and forth until October. This is an extremely busy time with tourists in the Serengeti National Park which our team have been trained to manage very carefully; avoiding the crowds.
Traversing Season
November – December
The herds begin to turn once again as the rains push further south and traverse in smaller herds with long lines through the eastern, western and central areas back into the south.
Wayo Little Green Camp can be combined with Wayo Manyara Green Camp and Wayo Serengeti Green Camp in our Stay 4 – Pay 3 and Stay 5 – Pay 4 combinations.
