It is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park and was established as a protected area during the 1950s and covers an incredible 22 400 km2 area in western Zambia.

 

Kafue National Park is Zambia’s oldest and largest. It’s a hidden gem with:

  • Wildlife: Lions, leopards, elephants, hippos, over 500 bird species
  • Landscapes: Kafue River, woodlands, grassy plains

Morning: Drive to Kafue (via Lusaka), park entry
Afternoon: Game drive (lions, leopards, elephants)
Evening: Dinner & overnight at Mukambi Bush Camp

Day 2: Full Day Game Drives

Morning: Game drive (track wildlife along Kafue River)
Afternoon: Lunch at lodge, boat safari on Kafue River
Evening: Sundowner & dinner

  • LOCATION

    Found in the center of western Zambia, Kafue is the oldest and largest of Zambia’s national parks. It covers a massive 22 400 km² / 8 650 mi².

  • BEST TIME TO VISIT

    Mostly from July to October – the middle and end of the Dry season. The bush has dried out and thirsty animals head to rivers and waterholes, which makes these the best months for wildlife viewing. The Busanga Plains are off-limits in the Wet season when they are flooded.

  • WILDLIFE

    Some animals found in the park include Common ones the lions. elephants. buffalo, zebra, hippo, leopards. cheetals and various antelope species like impala, puku, sable, hartebeest, bushbuck, roan and waterbuck and others include the Cheetah which is Rare and the none- existence ones the Giraffe and White Rhino. The endangered ones include the wild dog is also found.

  • BIRDING

    Kafue National Park is a great birding destination year-round. However, the best time is during the wet summer months, from November to April, when migrants are present. At this time, a lot of birds are in breeding plumage as well.
