A photographic journey in the Luangwa Valley

David a well-known wildlife photographer and author of several books, including Zambia Safari in Style owns this company. Dave will often lead the safari. The leading photographer accompanies you on all game drives, give advice, analyse results, and also look at how best to use Adobe Lightroom. In addition to wildlife, you will also look at landscapes, macro work, birds, insects, and people while staying at Nkwali Camp & Nsefu Camp.

This is a unique opportunity to benefit from the knowledge of a leading wildlife photographer and see the South Luangwa. Bring your own digital camera and computer for downloading the photographs.

The South Luangwa National Park, Zambia marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the last remaining unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. This is one of the most exclusive experiences on offer in the African bush. The park is centered around the Luangwa River. Untapped by man, its natural ebb and flow of flooding makes much of the park inaccessible by road which keeps it a sanctuary for the large concentration of game that live there. A paradise for birders, over 450 species are to be found in the park, and the wildlife includes elephant, buffalo, hippos, giraffe, leopards and lions.

Tour Plan

Day 1 -3 Nkwali Camp

Photo

You will start you and end your Photographic Safari at Nkwali Camp, which is located on the banks of the Luangwa on a magnificent meander in the river overlooking the National Park where leopards roam along the bank and can often be spotted from camp.

Nkwali Camp is a small intimate and authentic camp and is the ideal start off point to any safari with a few more creature comforts than the bush camps to help ease people into the African way of life. While at Nkwali Camp, you have the option of 2 game activities per day, with the choice of a game drive or a walking safari. There is no typical day on safari, you can choose to do as little or as much as you like although we recommend at least one activity per day. Apart from the game activities, there are also some enriching cultural experiences

Day 3 - 6:  Nsefu Camp

Photo

Next up on the Photographic Safari is a stay at the historic Nsefu Camp, situated on the banks of the Luangwa River, in the remote Nsefu sector on the north side of South Luangwa National Park. It was the very first photographic safari camp in Zambia, which dates back to the fifties. The Nsefu sector was first pronounced a game reserve in 1966 some five years before the South Luangwa was even declared and has always been recognised as an outstanding game-viewing area.

A suggested day on safari at Nsefu Camp starts with a hearty breakfast around the campfire, after which your morning activity will begin! Depending on time of year an all day picnic drive to the salt pans that will cover different habitats comes highly recommended and is a
