Maasai Mara (Masai Mara) is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves
The best time to visit Masai Mara National Reserve is during the Dry season from June to October. At this time, animals draw near to rivers and waterholes and vegetation is thinner, making wildlife easier to find and to see.
Big five are found here include the lions, elephants, leopards and Cape buffalos are a relatively common sight in the Masai Mara. Rhinos do occur but are difficult to spot. Other animals found here include the Wildebeest, Aardwolf, Aardvark, Banded mongoose, Quagga, African buffalo Bovidae, Impala, Waterbuck and Masai giraffe.
Birding Safaris in Masai Mara is termed as the birding paradise with over 450 bird species out of which more than 45 species of birds of prey. The reserve hosts the largest bird on planet earth that is the Ostrich also commonly known as “the Masai Ostrich”.
Some of the Common birds found here include Ostrich Struthio camelus, Little Grebe Tachybaptus capensis, Long-tailed (Reed) Cormorant Phalacrocorax africanus other birds include Cuckoos, Cuckoos, Red-chested Cuckoo , Cuckoos and Black Cuckoo.
The temperatures during the day range between 20 to 27 degrees Celsius and the night temperatures fall to between 11 to 14 degrees Celsius. Maasai Mara national reserve experiences both dry season and the rainy season/ wet season throughout the year.
