Akagera National Park is one of the biggest national parks in Rwanda where travelers can do the best wildlife safari tours in Rwanda.
Rwanda Big Five Safaris dominate wildlife adventures in Akagera National Park. The park is now home to the Big Five Mammals: elephants, lions, buffalo, Rhinos, and Leopards. Akagera is also home to Elands, hippos, zebras, giraffes, topi, and several bird species.
These are best seen on game drives, boat cruises, and guided walks.
Guided by expert rangers, Rwanda Big Five safaris guarantee exclusive experiences and exceptional photography opportunities.
Akagera National Park recently received a significant boost to its rhino population with the translocation of 70 white rhinos from South Africa, as part of the “Rhino Rewild” initiative.
The translocation is part of an initiative to rewild rhino populations across Africa and was carried out through collaboration between various conservation organizations.
Rwanda Tours to Akagera now promises more exclusive encounters with both black & white rhinos.
Akagera National Park has a rich marine wildlife that is best explored on boat cruise excursions along Lake Ihema and other smaller lakes in the park.
Notable wildlife species to see on Akagera boat cruises include Nile Crocodiles, Hippos, and several bird species. Akagera is Rwanda’s most important birding Area after Nyungwe Forest. This makes it a prime birding destination.
